Food Coloring - red and yellow
Pull apart licorice - black or grape
Add ten drops of yellow food coloring and five drops of red food coloring to the can of frosting to make it orange. Add more if you would like it to be bright orange, using the formula of 2 parts yellow, one part red. Frost the cupcakes with the orange frosting.
Pull apart 4 pieces of licorice for each cupcake. Have a shish-ka-bob stick or toothpics handy. You will want to poke a hole in the cupcake where you want to stick the spider leg before you push the leg in.
To make the legs:
Place 2 of the thin licorace on a plate. Put them in the microwave for 30 seconds. They will bubble up nicely and look like hairy spider legs.
Let the licorice cool for just a few seconds so you can handle them. Unstick them quickly from the plate, cut each one in half, poke a hole in your cupcake near the edge, and put your leg in the hole. Arrange it while it is warm so it arches. Quickly do the same thing with the other 3 legs. The licorice may get a little brittle after it cools so you want to move and get all your spider legs in pretty fast. However you form the leg is how it will stay after it cools.
I added 2 brown M&M's for eyes.
